Smith on Golden Spikes midseason watch list
EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon third baseman Drew Smith is one of 45 players named to the Golden Spikes Award midseason watch list by USA Baseball today.
The Golden Spikes Award honors the best amateur baseball player in the nation. Smith is the seventh Oregon baseball player all time to be named to the midseason watch list joining Jimmie Sherfy (2013), Ryan Healy (2013), Stephen Nogosek (2016), David Peterson (2017), Kenyon Yovan (2021) and Mason Neville (2025).
Smith (Clovis, Calif. / Buchanan HS), is batting .381 (37-for-97) with 15 extra-base hits, 34 RBI and 26 runs scored. Despite having the sixth most at-bats on the team, Smith leads the Ducks in home runs (9), RBI (34) and all three slash line categories .381/.487/.742 with a team-best 1.229 OPS. The Ducks’ senior also has a team-high 13 multiple-hit games and a team-best nine multiple-RBI games.
In the Big Ten, Smith ranks in the top 10 in OPS (3rd), slugging percentage (3rd), RBI (4th), home runs (T6th), batting average (7th) and on-base percentage (10th).
