Ducks Add Fred Payne
EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon men’s basketball has signed transfer guard Fred Payne, head coach Dana Altman announced Friday.
Payne joins the Ducks after three seasons at Boston College, where he owns career averages of 10.7 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 66 games, making 31 starts.
During his junior season in 2025-26, Payne started 30 of 31 games and led Boston College with 15.8 points per game while averaging 4.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.1 steals in 34.7 minutes. He recorded nine 20-point performances, including a career-high 26 points in a win over Syracuse. Payne also notched 24 points, nine rebounds, a career-best five steals and four assists in a win over Notre Dame. He scored in double figures 27 times and registered his first career double-double with 16 points and a career-high 12 rebounds at Virginia Tech.
As a sophomore in 2024-25, Payne appeared in 30 games with one start, averaging 6.9 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. The Grambling, Louisiana native recorded nine double-digit scoring performances, including a season-high 18 points in a win over Missouri State. Payne added 17 points and three steals at Virginia and posted 15 points, six rebounds and three assists in a start against Miami.
Payne saw limited action as a freshman in 2023-24 due to a knee injury, appearing in five games.
A four-star recruit by ESPN, Payne completed his prep career at Legacy the School of Sport Sciences in Houston, where he led his team to the 2023 CIBA Tournament Championship and earned MVP honors. He was also named a 2022-23 First Team All-CIBA selection.
